(north america) rock music

n Andrew Brouse
c Canada
@ brouse at music dot mcgill dot ca

A small collection of magnetic rocks (magnetite) were placed inside a Faraday enclosure to minimise external electromagnetic interference. Very sensitive electronic measurement leads were attached to various places amongst the rocks. An 8-channel recording was made for a period of 18 hours. The resulting recording was time-compressed from 18 hours down to approximately 7 minutes and down-mixed from 8 channels to stereo. The resulting sound consists of complex interactions between the harmonics of the prevalent 60 Hz hum modulated over time by the subtle changes in electrical currents in the magnetic rocks.

gevuilik is a progressive psytrance soundscape produced using a number of VST plugins and synthesisers that I wrote. inspiration for the track is taken from the staggering similarities and obvious links between eastern religions and Top Gun the movie, with a pinch of african psychedelics.

blanket in my mouth

n Hilary Mullaney
c Ireland
@ hilarymullaney at gmail dot com

inspiration for the composition came from an extract from a poem I wrote: 'a blanket in my mouth? Speech smothered, nothing comes out'. the original sound sources were created using the upic system at the ccmix studios in paris in 2005. a year later, the piece was completed using some sound manipulation techniques, editing and overlaying of sounds while still remaining true to the original material composed using the upic.
